The city of Newark, New Jersey didn’t make any headlines when it was revealed that it had become a sister city with another fake nation named Kailasa. The announcement sparked confusion and controversy, raising questions about the purpose and legitimacy of sister-city relationships and the credibility of the Newark government.

The city only found out about the fraud after it held an official ceremony for it.

What started off as a seemingly well-intentioned partnership has turned into a giant embarrassment for the city of Newark.

Earlier this year, Mayor Ras Baraka invited what he thought was the Hindu nation of Kailasa to Newark’s City Hall for a cultural trade agreement, but it turns out Kailasa is no nation at all; it’s a fake.

Kailasa is a made-up place from the brain of Swami Nithyananda.
Swami, a controversial spiritual leader who has been accused of sexual abuse, fraud, and kidnapping. The nation claims to have its own government, flag, currency, and even a passport. However, it is not recognized as a sovereign state by any other country, and its legitimacy is highly questionable.

And they want us to trust the government after blunders like these?

On Tuesday, Gov. Phil Murphy (D-NJ), announced his state will be expanding access to the pilot Advanced Placement African American Studies course to 26 state high schools for the 2023-2024 school year. The move comes as the Florida Department of Education and Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) have launched a review of the course to determine whether it will be allowed in Florida schools.
