Republican Governor Expresses Support For National Ban On Assault-Style Weapons

Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws adversely affect only the law-abiding citizens.

With guns, we are “citizens”. Without them, we are “subjects”.
But it seems we are losing the battle for our second amendment!

Massachusetts federal government officials should look to adopting a similar measure at the national level, Gov. Charlie Baker said Wednesday.

“Look, I think the assault weapons ban in the commonwealth of Massachusetts, based on all the data that’s available, has served this commonwealth well, and I think it would be appropriate at this point for the federal government to adopt something similar,” Baker said.

Baker has changed his stance on a federal assault weapon ban, which expired in 2004 while the Massachusetts version remains on the books.

In early 2013, before he mounted a 2014 run for governor, he appeared on the “Broadside with Jim Braude” television show and expressed some skepticism about the state ban.

“We’ve had it since 1998, Jim, and gun crime has gone up since then by a lot,” Baker said at the time. “If I thought it would solve the problem, I’d be all for it. But I need to see the evidence. I would like to see the evidence.”

This news comes after February 22-26 poll conducted by Morning Consult/Politico shows that voters support arming teachers in the wake of the Florida school shooting.
The margin of support was 50% to 42%.

The poll also found that voters support “protecting the right of Americans to own guns” over “limiting gun ownership” by a margin of 46% to 42%.

The renewed focus on gun control measures now comes after the mass shooting inside a high school in Parkland, Florida.

In the wake of the shooting, students have been demanding the lawmakers act and pass new gun laws.

But is banning guns the solution of our problems?
