On Friday night the United States government was officially shut down after Democrats and Republicans were unable to reach an agreement on government funding.
And while Republicans and Democrats were working to reach a deal to reopen the government before Monday, Trump took to social media and blasted the Democrats.
In a Twitter post, he wrote: “Republicans are fighting for our Military and Safety at the Border” while “Dems just want illegal immigrants to pour into our nation unchecked.”
Then he called on the “nuclear option” if the “stalemate continues.”
“If stalemate continues, Republicans should go to 51% (Nuclear Option) and vote on real, long term budget, no C.R.’s!”
Great to see how hard Republicans are fighting for our Military and Safety at the Border. The Dems just want illegal immigrants to pour into our nation unchecked. If stalemate continues, Republicans should go to 51% (Nuclear Option) and vote on real, long term budget, no C.R.’s!

Senate rules impose a threshold of 60 votes to break a filibuster, and Trump’s call for the “nuclear option” would change that rule to only require a majority vote, which the Republicans would be expected to have since they have 51 seats in the Senate.
However, a spokesman for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said in response to the tweet that the Senate Republican Conference does not support changing the 60-vote rule, a reiteration of Republican Senate leadership’s already-stated opposition to the move President Trump has called for over the past year.
White House budget director Mick Mulvaney said on CNN’s “State of the Union” that eliminating the filibuster would be one avenue they back to ending the shutdown.
“There’s a bunch of different ways to fix this,” Mulvaney said. “We just want it to get fixed.”
The problem is, no matter WHAT President Trump does, no matter how important or justified, the Democrats ARE NOT going to vote for it. The ONLY way for President Trump to get anything done is to manipulate the laws and procedures as they exist. The nuclear option has been used by the Democrats in the past to get what they want. This is an urgent need and the government is in need of strong leadership to let the Democrats know that the wellbeing of the nation is more important than their little petty ways of obstructing President Trump’s agenda.
They let an extremely destructive law pass that turned our medical care upside down costing ordinary Americans far more than is necessary and they didn’t even READ IT before they passed it. When you have the same people in Congress that passed that law voting, you can not expect them to do what is RIGHT; they only want their way no matter how destructive it might be to the American people.
In cases like this, I have no objection to President Trump taking the bull by the horns and doing what is necessary to get the government up and running again, throwing out the DACA leaches and showing the Democrats that he is tired of their playground bullying.
