EMOTIONAL: President Trump & Melania Visit Pearl Harbor, USS Arizona Memorial Media Stunned By What Happens Next (Video)

The president and first lady landed in Hawaii on Friday afternoon for a one-day stopover that’s caused significant gridlock throughout the urban core and is severely limiting access to the state’s no. 1 tourist destination.

The first couple landed at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam about 1:10 p.m. Friday.

After stepping off Air Force One, hand-in-hand with First Lady Melania Trump, the president received a maile lei and the first couple was greeted by Gov. David Ige, U.S Pacific Command Adm. Harry Harris, and other dignitaries.

Trump then shook hands and posed for photos with members of the military and their families who had gathered to meet him.

While the first lady headed to Waikiki, the president went to Camp Smith for a meeting with PACOM leaders.

“I tell you, this is very special being in Hawaii,” the president said, according to a pool report. The president also expressed excitement about the prospect of visiting Pearl Harbor and the USS Arizona Memorial later in the afternoon.

He said he’s “read about, spoken about, heard about, studied, but I haven’t seen” Pearl Harbor.

But when he got there he did something that stunned the press into silence. They were expecting Trump to do what all past presidents have done – make it a big spectacle and bore everyone with a tedious speech written by some intern.

Not Trump. Instead, he did something unexpected and most respectful – he honored the memorial by staying silent.

Not one word. Just respect. And a salute.

That was so moving! I loved this! Trump is such a wonderful person, and very respectful! He makes a great president ! And he really cares about America and us! He is truly a blessing to America! God Bless Him!
