Verdict In: Karmelo Anthony Convicted and Stares Down 99 Years — Post-Trial Madness Erupts as CNN Fans the Flames (Videos)

A Texas jury has convicted Karmelo Anthony of murder in the stabbing death of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf.

Anthony now faces up to 99 years in prison. The sentencing phase is already underway after the jury deliberated for just three hours.

The facts were straightforward. Anthony, from rival Centennial High School, was sitting under Memorial High’s tent at a track meet when Metcalf and his twin brother asked him to leave. Instead of walking away, Anthony pulled out a knife he had brought with him and stabbed Metcalf once in the chest. Metcalf died in his brother’s arms.

The prosecution made it clear there was no justification for using deadly force. As prosecutor Bill Wirskye told the jury: “You don’t get to meet a shove with a stab, especially if you provoke the shove.” He also pointed out that Anthony was the only one at the track meet who brought a knife.

After the guilty verdict was read, Anthony reportedly broke down sobbing in court. Outside the Collin County Courthouse, his supporters erupted into chaos and madness.

One woman was caught on camera threatening a man who was peacefully live-streaming. Another supporter openly asked, “What do you want us to do?” in reference to stabbing “innocent, unarmed white boys.” Others could be heard saying things like “They found Karmelo Anthony guilty of killing that b*tch*ss White boy” and chanting “Free Karmelo Anthony.”

Even CNN jumped in to fan the flames. The network immediately called the verdict “shocking” and had Areva Martin suggest it was because of an “all white jury.” She claimed Anthony was in fear for his life from “larger athletes” and that this would be difficult for the Black community to accept. She even argued that if Anthony believed he was going to be killed or injured, “he had a right to take out a knife.”

The jury saw through the self-defense claims. They understood that bringing a knife to a track meet and using it on an unarmed teenager who simply asked you to leave is not self-defense — it’s murder.

While emotions ran high outside the courthouse, with Black Panthers showing up and supporters arguing among themselves, law enforcement kept the peace and didn’t allow things to spiral out of control.

Austin Metcalf’s family finally has a measure of justice after losing their son in a senseless act of violence. Karmelo Anthony will now have to answer for what he did.

The verdict was clear. The evidence was clear. And the attempts to turn this into a racial issue after the fact are as predictable as they are disgusting.
