Standing Up For America!!! NFL Referees Are Walking Off Field In Protest After Players Take Knee During Anthem
We live in such a time of disrespect. Back in the day, your parents taught you to respect. If people cannot respect our country and flag… move somewhere where you can! High school players should be taught what it means to stand for the National anthem. They should be suspended from team and school for disrespectful actions.
On Friday night two high school football referees walked off the field after four players of Monroe High School team knelt during the national anthem. The referees were replaced by two officials in training.
Ernie and Anthony Lunardelli who are father and son said they told officials from Colts Neck and Monroe high schools before the game they would not work if any players protested.
I applaud them. A sporting event is neither the time or place for this crouching down and demonstrating lack of respect for their country. I would have walked too.
“I’m not in favor of anyone disrespecting our country, our flag, the armed forces. What they’re protesting has nothing to do with the national anthem and I’m against it, so I decided to protest for them kneeling and that’s what I did,” said Ernie Lunardelli, who is in his 18th season of officiating scholastic football games.
He added: “Whoever is disrespecting that flag and the national anthem, that’s who I have a problem with. That’s my protest. I don’t care if it’s a baby if it’s an 80-year-old man, anybody. I don’t care. Any race, color, I don’t care who it is. It’s not the way I was brought up and it pisses me off that people are doing that.”
Ernie said that “what hurts the most is these kids don’t even know why they’re kneeling.”
“I just don’t understand why this is happening, especially at the high school level. If you’re not happy with being in America, go somewhere else. It’s that simple.”
His son, who attended Monroe and played on the football team in 2008 saw the act as a sign of disrespect.
“They’ve got a right to protest and so do we.” Anthony Lunardelli said.
“That is not how I was brought up, and that’s not how I was raised. I’m not criticizing their right. That’s just my viewpoint.”
Proud of them! I am glad they are standing up for their beliefs. If the players can protest without consequences as a “free speech” then refs have the right to counter-protest by walking out as “free speech”!
This crap is it off hand. It needs to stop. They say they are kneeling for injustice. What about the division and destruction they are bringing by kneeling? Don’t they see this approach isn’t working? Time to stop and find a way to bring people together.
If only the NFL refs would do the same…walk off the field!
