Shooting At New Mexico High School 2 Students Killed Several Wounded! Here Are The Details…
Two students were killed when a gunman opened fire at a northern New Mexico high school Thursday morning, law enforcement officials said.
The suspected gunman was also killed.
Aztec High School, which is located in the Four Corners region and near the Navajo Nation, was evacuated after a period of being in lockdown. Authorities said they cleared the buildings at the school, and students were boarding buses to another location where they could be reunited with their parents.
A crowd of nervous parents gathered outside City Hall to wait for more information as officers tried to reassure them about the safety of their children.
“The families of the victims were notified immediately. They are in our thoughts and prayers,” state police said in a statement on social media.
State and federal authorities are investigating what led to the shooting and did not immediately release any details about the circumstances.
Aztec is a rural community of 6,500 people in the heart of north-western New Mexico’s oil and gas country and near the Navajo Nation. Its main street is lined by old brick buildings that date back more than a century.
