Another win against the establishment! President Trump is accomplishing what other Presidents have not been able to do!!! At least 51 GOP members have said they’ll support passing the tax bill.
But the big news is that Jeff Flake finally did something to benefit those who legally voted for him. On Friday Arizona Senator Jeff Flake announced that he will support the Republican tax plan, providing the 50th vote needed.
Via The Hill: Flake’s decision officially gives Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) the 50 out of 52 GOP senators he needs to let Vice President Pence break a tie on the legislation. Republicans had to kick work on the tax plan into Friday when deficit hawks led by Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN) threatened to kill the bill during an unexpected floor showdown on Thursday evening.
In a statement, Flake said: “I am pleased to announce I will vote in support the tax reform bill.”
Flake said in addition to getting rid of an $85 billion “budget gimmick,” he had also secured an agreement to work on a legislative fix for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.
“The second was to obtain a firm commitment from the Senate Leadership and the administration to work with me on a growth-oriented legislative solution to enact fair and permanent protections for DACA recipients,” he said.”
The Trump administration announced its intent to end the DACA program in September.
Some Democrats have threatened any government spending bill without a deal on DACA. Flake’s efforts in negotiations along with his vote could be instrumental in the bill’s passage. If this bill does pass, it will be a win for the Republicans to further a greater economic environment.
Too bad the Democrats were not willing to work on the bill they might have been able to make it better. No, they will have their Obama Care to complain about for the next election.
