Dramatic Bodycam Footage Captures The Moment Where A Man Opens Fire On Police While Holding His Baby, Police Serves Him Instant Justice

The incident happened last month, but the police bodycam video was released Wednesday.

A long volley of gunshots fired in darkness, followed by someone excitedly proclaiming, “I got, the baby, I got the baby, I got the baby,” is revealed on a video released by the state Attorney General’s Office of a fatal police gun battle in Long Branch that claimed the life of a Virginia man.

The video is from the scene of a shootout on Nov. 5 with Mark D. Walker, 34, of Woodbridge, Virginia, as he was fleeing the scene of an hours-long standoff with a 2-week-old baby in his arms.

Prosecutors say as they tried to execute a search warrant, Mark Walker II shot a detective in the leg. He then barricaded himself inside with a baby. Hours later, a fire broke out in the apartment.

Prosecutors say Walker ran from the building with the baby in his arms and began shooting at police.

Officers returned fire, striking Walker. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The baby was not physically hurt.

Walker was serving a nine-year sentence stemming from a 2014 conviction for a burglary that happened four years earlier in Somerville, according to court records.

He was initially charged with robbery and aggravated assault as well as burglary.

Walker was also convicted in 2005 of distributing marijuana in a school zone in Tinton Falls, drawing up to a three-year sentence in that case, according to Nexis, a public records vendor.

The fatal shooting is under investigation by the attorney general’s Office of Public Integrity and Accountability.
