Disgraceful: Democrat Candidate Refuses to Recite the Pledge of Allegiance and Turns Her Back on the Flag — Video Goes Viral
This is what “representing” the American people looks like to some Democrats.
California congressional candidate Mai Vang, who currently sits on the Sacramento City Council, has been caught on video multiple times refusing to recite the Pledge of Allegiance and turning her back on the American flag during council meetings.
She didn’t hide it. In February of last year, just days after President Trump took office for his second term, Vang took to Facebook to proudly explain why she does it:
“And this is exactly why I choose not to recite the Pledge of Allegiance during every council meeting. As much as I love this country, I use that moment to ground myself — to center our communities and remind myself of the injustices and harm that continue to affect so many, both locally and across the globe, under this nation’s influence.”
She added that Americans must “resist” and “stay steadfast in the fight for equity, justice & humanity” instead of becoming “numb to the realities.”
Here’s the video showing her in action:
Vang isn’t some fringe activist. She’s a serious contender in California’s Seventh District, boasting a poll that shows her just two points behind incumbent Democrat Rep. Doris Matsui — and in her own “informed ballot,” she claims a five-point lead.
This isn’t the only slight she’s shown toward the people she wants to represent. She also posted a TikTok video mocking Americans and American culture.

This is the radical left in plain sight. While millions of Americans — including legal immigrants who came here the right way — proudly stand for the Pledge and honor the flag, some politicians treat it like an optional suggestion they can skip whenever they feel like it. Vang isn’t just disrespecting a symbol. She’s disrespecting the country, its history, and the people who built it.
President Trump has always stood for unapologetic patriotism. He’s the one who made it clear that America comes first, and that elected officials should serve the citizens who pay their salaries — not lecture them about how terrible their nation is.
The fact that Vang is running a competitive race in California shows how far some parts of the country have drifted. But the American people as a whole are rejecting this kind of anti-American attitude. They want leaders who love this country, not ones who turn their backs on it while running for office.
Vang’s behavior isn’t “progressive” — it’s ungrateful and out of touch. If she can’t even bring herself to recite the Pledge or face the flag, she has no business asking Americans to trust her with a seat in Congress.
The video is going viral for a reason. Americans are tired of politicians who hate the country they want to lead.
