Video: Georgia Mass Shooter’s Classmate Describes His Chilling Behavior Moments Before Opening Fire—Reveals Disturbing Red Flags
In the aftermath of the tragic shooting at Apalachee High School in Georgia, more details have emerged about the shooter, 14-year-old Colt Gray, and the disturbing events leading up to the attack. The FBI confirmed that they had been aware of Gray as early as May 2023, following anonymous tips about online threats to commit a school shooting. Despite these warnings, no significant action was taken.
FBI Knew, But Was It Enough? Gray was interviewed by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office in 2023 after threats surfaced, including images of guns posted online. However, both Gray and his father denied any access to firearms, and local schools were simply advised to monitor the situation. No arrests or additional measures were taken, leaving many questioning how such red flags went unaddressed.
On the day of the shooting, a classmate, Lyela Sayarath, who sat next to Gray in algebra class, revealed her chilling experience moments before the violence erupted. Describing Gray as a “quiet” teen who rarely attended class, Sayarath recounted how his cold demeanor and lack of communication had left students feeling uneasy. “Even when he talked, it was one-word answers,” she said. Despite this, the true horror unfolded as he began shooting, leaving everyone in shock.
What she told her off the camera:
Missed Warning Signs Other students reported similar observations of Gray’s behavior, further raising concerns about how the system failed to prevent this tragedy. Gray’s actions were not entirely unexpected to those who knew him, which has led to renewed scrutiny on the FBI’s handling of the case and the school’s preparedness for such incidents.
Larger Issues at Play While the Democrats push for stricter gun control in response to this tragedy, many argue that the real issue lies in the failure to address mental health crises and the flaws within gun-free zones.
Mental Health Crisis: Gray’s case highlights how schools often overlook critical signs of mental instability. Mental health intervention, not just school counselors, is essential to preventing tragedies like this.
Gun-Free Zones: Apalachee High School, like many others, was a designated gun-free zone, yet it wasn’t able to protect its students. It’s clear that simply banning guns from schools isn’t enough. Schools need armed security to protect vulnerable students from individuals intent on doing harm.
Political Exploitation: While the left quickly exploits these situations to advocate for gun control, it’s important to recognize that mental health issues, when unchecked, are the real root of these problems. Guns don’t pull their own triggers—disturbed individuals do.
What Needs to Happen Now
Securing Our Schools: If we can secure the nation’s borders, we can secure our schools. Armed security guards should be present in every school, not just metal detectors or signs declaring gun-free zones.
Prioritizing Mental Health: School systems must focus on providing real mental health interventions, with licensed professionals trained to address dangerous behaviors before they escalate into violence.
Parental Involvement: Transparency is key. Parents must be informed if their child shows signs of being a potential threat to themselves or others.
This tragedy, like so many others, could have been prevented. The loss of Mason Schermerhorn and others should not be in vain. Real change is needed—action, not just words or political posturing. Schools need protection, not politics. Let’s make sure the next headline is about solutions, not another tragedy.

Mark Van der Veen offers some of the most analytical and insightful writings on politics. He regularly opines on the motives and political calculations of politicians and candidates, and whether or not their strategy will work. Van der Veen offers a contrast to many on this list by sticking mainly to a fact-based style of writing that is generally combative with opposing ideologies.
Even though these nuts are ALWAYS already “on the FBI’s radar”, the Feds area usually too busy hunting down patriotic Americans for exercising their Constitutional Rights to investigate or prevent these tragic occurrences. But don’t worry…the Feds are TOTALLY on top of (so called) transphobia and memes critical of the Left…
I feel for the teachers in our public schools, they are pressured to teach and adhere to the “woke” influence pressed upon them by the liberal agenda of the leadership, this doesn’t leave much time for the real problems of mental health of their students who are falling through the cracks.
