VIDEO: Jeffries Delivers “Inspiring” Rant About Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill—What Happens Next Is Comedy Gold
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries gave it everything he had in one final attempt to stall President Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill.” And let’s just say—it didn’t go quite the way he hoped.
In a fiery floor speech Thursday morning, Jeffries leaned into his usual bag of Democrat fearmongering—warning, once again, that passing the bill would somehow lead to catastrophe. He even repeated the tired claim that it would “end Medicaid as we know it,” which, as anyone who’s read the bill knows, simply means no more Medicaid handouts for illegal aliens.
But the real highlight wasn’t the speech. It was what happened behind him.
As Jeffries launched into his 17-hand-gestures-per-minute routine, cameras caught Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D-OH) nodding off—yes, literally falling asleep. Another Democrat nearby didn’t look much more awake. If even your own party can’t stay conscious during your “rallying cry,” maybe it’s time to rethink the message.

Even funnier? Once journalist Matthew Foldi pointed it out on X, Democrats removed Kaptur from the frame and replaced her. Because of course they did—it’s always about optics with them.

Jeffries also posted a now-viral photo earlier this week holding a baseball bat, claiming Democrats would “keep the pressure on Republicans.” It was widely mocked, with many pointing out how cringe the “threat” looked coming from a guy who’s clearly better at theater than leadership.
But perhaps the best part came from Vice President JD Vance, who revealed that an undecided GOP member watched Jeffries’ rant and immediately flipped to a “firm yes” vote.
GOP Congressman just texted me:
“I was undecided on the bill but then I watched Hakeem Jeffries performance and now I’m a firm yes.”

That’s right—Jeffries is now helping Trump get his bill passed just by opening his mouth.
We say keep him talking. At this rate, the GOP might start inviting him to speak at their rallies.

Mark Van der Veen offers some of the most analytical and insightful writings on politics. He regularly opines on the motives and political calculations of politicians and candidates, and whether or not their strategy will work. Van der Veen offers a contrast to many on this list by sticking mainly to a fact-based style of writing that is generally combative with opposing ideologies.

Well at least he had a couple of sleepy Dems behind him to make it look like he had lots of support, but a different view shows the chamber pretty much empty
Jefferies, the dollar store Obama, and that is being far too kind.
Oh Meow!
Just a loser being a loser!!!!!
Jefferies is a first class jerk. Not fit to serve this country in public office, but then so are most of not all of his fellow DemocRATs.
He sure put that Old Bat (democrat) to sleep.
