After Trying To Bribe U.S. Senators With 4 Million $, Rosie O’Donnell Gets Very Bad News From The Long Arm Of The Law

Rosie O’Donnell late Tuesday lashed out at Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) over the GOP tax overhaul.

The comedian and former co-host of “The View” tweeted a photo of Collins’s family, asking if the Maine Republican thought they were proud of her.

“Woman, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, you have betrayed us all.” O’Donnell wrote. “Dear god, ask for forgiveness, redeem your soul tomorrow.”

After that, she offered money to Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) and Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) on Tuesday on Twitter in an effort to sway their votes to “no” on the GOP-led tax reform bill.

O’Donnell attempted to bribe each senator with $2 million to vote “NO I WILL NOT KILL AMERICANS,” implying that if the bill becomes law, people will die:

Well, bad news Rosie bribery of a government official is a federal crime:

According to the Daily Caller, 18 U.S. Code § 201 criminalizes the attempted bribery of federal officials by whoever “directly or indirectly, corruptly gives, offers or promises anything of value to any public official…with intent to influence any official act.”

The penalty? For Rosie, she could spend up to 15 years in jail, suffer a lifetime ban from elective office and pay up to a cool $12 million, according to reports.

18 U.S. Code § 201 – Bribery of public officials and witnesses is pretty clear in defining this crime. Any attempt to influence a public official’s public act with an offer of something of value is bribery and a felony. O’Donnell offered 4 million dollars, which is something of value, to get two Senators, who are public officials, to vote against a tax bill, which is a public act. She’s guilty as hell of this.

[…]

The punishment for attempting to bribe a public official is up to 15 years in prison and a fine of “three times the monetary equivalent of the thing of value.” Since she offered 2 million to each senator, that’s 6 million a piece or 12 million total. But it gets more interesting since she also offered any Republican senator the same deal. There are 52 Republican Senators and at 2 million each, that makes 104 million times 3 which is 312 million. In addition, she’d be looking at 52 cases of trying to bribe a public official so she could also face 780 years in prison.

via NY Daily News:

FBI officials neither confirm nor deny investigations.

Most prosecutors would use their discretion, [Rebecca] Roiphe [a New York law school professor] said, look at the context of the political situation and not even interview O’Donnell.

“It all rides on what her intent was in writing that tweet,” she told the News. And trying to buy influence isn’t “the point of this whole string of these tweets. What she’s trying to do is fake-offer a bribe to point out that they’ve already been politically been bought.”

It is illegal to offer money to public officials with the intent to influence official acts, like voting on a bill.
Do you think that she should answer for this?

What makes anyone think she should NOT be charged?? Face it, a person’s mouth can get them in a lot of trouble — didn’t your Momma tell you that?? Once it’s out of your mouth, you can’t take it back! There is such a thing as a logical consequence or didn’t your Momma tell you about that either?…

I am one who believes that the law should be inforced to the full
Extent just like Martha Stewart or any citizen that fails to follow the law.
She should be convicted and put in jail like any other person would be.
