Sen. Schumer Threatens Lawsuits If Trump Use Military Funding To Build The Border Wall

THE ART OF THE DEAL. Let the Democrats think they are getting what they want, then hang em with their own rope. TRUMP 2020.

Democratic leader Sen. Chuck Schumer Schumer was overjoyed after Trump signed a $1.3 trillion omnibus spending bill. But, he didn’t see the smack-down coming and was caught unawares. Schumer got out-maneuvered by the POTUS who has far superior negotiating skills.

And now, Schumer threatens that any effort by President Donald Trump to use military funding to build his border wall will be blocked by a lawsuit. Schumer’s threat came after he worked with GOP leaders to allocate only $641 million for the construction of new border fences in the 2018 omnibus bill. The bill also includes language which bars Trump from spending money on the concrete-and-metal prototype walls which he touted in early March.

According to The Washington Post, Schumer said: “This would be a blatant misuse of military funds and tied up in court for years. [Defense] Secretary Mattis ought not bother and instead use the money to help our troops, rather than advance the president’s political fantasies.

The Boston Globe reported: “Trump, who told advisers he was spurned in a large spending bill last week when lawmakers only appropriated $1.6 billion for the border wall, has begun suggesting the Pentagon could fund the sprawling construction, citing a “national security” risk.

After floating the notion to several advisers last week, he told Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) that the military should pay for the wall in a meeting last Wednesday in the White House residence, according to three people familiar with the meeting. Ryan offered little reaction to the notion, these people said, but senior Capitol Hill officials later said it was an unlikely prospect.”

It’s an Omnibus bill, he can use the money in any way he wants. President must spend most of the funds allocated by Congress, but he can shift a small percentage of each program’s funds to another program because it’s not a binding spending bill. He can use defense money for anything concerning National defense, and the wall is just that.

So, Schumer can threaten all he wants. But, a border wall is part of national security. There was money in the U.S. budget to build security walls in the Middle East. If it’s national security over there, how could it *not* be national security right here??

The President is a shrewd negotiator par excellence. Anyway, the Democrats had a day of jubilation of the false feeling of victory over Trump. They have been had including those Republicans who are against the sitting president.

It would be a shame if some liberal federal judge ties this up in court. We must continue to drain the swamp.
