Kate Middleton earlier delivered the boy, who weighed 8lbs 7oz, at the same hospital where her two oldest children were born.
She “safely” her third child just hours after being admitted to the hospital, and as the country marked patriotic St George’s Day.
The Duchess of Cambridge is reportedly doing well, as is her newborn son. Kate, who suffered from an extreme morning sickness known as hyperemesis graviderum, gave birth to a healthy baby at St. Mary’s Hospital in Central London.
This newborn Prince was born on a rather patriotic holiday, St. George’s Day. St. George is the protector of the Royal family and the patron saint of England during the Middle Ages. His cross is used as the English flag and is prominent on the Union Jack flag of Great Britain.
St. George’s Day is a particularly special day because it’s a day to celebrate English culture. What an appropriate day for a Prince to be born!
Family members have been informed and are “delighted” with the news.
“Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a son at 1101hrs. The baby weighs 8lbs 7oz,” the palace said via Twitter.
The Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth.
“Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well.”
The statement added: “The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry and members of both families have been informed and are delighted with the news.”
Kate Middleton followed in the footsteps of her deceased mother-in-law Princess Diana who gave birth to her sons in the Lindo Wing of St. Mary’s hospital. Diana and Princess Anne were the first Royals to give birth in a hospital. Previously, royal home births were the standard.
