He further noted that she sometimes changes her accent to suit her audience.
During the Q&A session, Trump was asked whether he believed Harris was a “DEI hire,” referring to diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. Instead of directly answering, Trump pivoted to critique Harris’ perceived inconsistency in her ethnic presentation.
“She switches between being Indian and African American depending on who she’s talking to,” Trump said. “I’ve seen her change her accent, too. It’s like she’s trying to be everything to everyone.”
This remark has ignited a debate, with a recently surfaced video adding fuel to the fire. The video shows a group of black men in a barbershop discussing Harris’ heritage and questioning whether she truly identifies with the black community. One man in the video states, “I don’t feel like she’s really one of us,” sparking a conversation among the others about her background and public persona.
CNN’s Michael Smerconish responded to the video, suggesting that the sentiments expressed by the men in the barbershop are not widely held. “These views are the exception, not the rule,” Smerconish said.
