BREAKING: Virginia Councilman Doused in Gasoline and Set on Fire Outside Office—Suspect Arrested

In a horrifying and bizarre attack on Wednesday, Danville, Virginia Councilman Lee Vogler was doused in gasoline and set on fire outside his workplace. The suspect, 29-year-old Shotsie Michael Buck Hayes, has been arrested and charged in connection with the brazen crime.

Vogler, who has served on the Danville City Council since 2012 and is its youngest-ever elected member, was airlifted to a burn treatment center after suffering serious injuries.

The shocking incident began when Hayes reportedly forced his way into the offices of Showcase Magazine, where Vogler works. According to publisher Andrew Brooks, Hayes brought a five-gallon bucket of gasoline and began dumping it on Vogler during a confrontation inside the building.

But in a puzzling twist, both men then exited the building together—and that’s when Hayes allegedly lit Vogler on fire.

“He dumped gas on him in the building. They walked outside… then he set him on fire,” said Brooks.

Danville Police confirmed Vogler was able to identify his attacker, and added that witnesses provided key details that led to Hayes’ capture shortly after he fled the scene.

It’s also been revealed that Vogler and Hayes knew each other, with photos surfacing of the two at a local fair last year—raising even more questions about motive and premeditation.

The Virginia Young Republicans quickly issued a statement of support, saying:

“We are shocked and horrified by the news that our friend Lee Vogler was brutally attacked… We are praying for his full recovery.”

The motive remains unclear, but the brazenness and brutality of the attack have left the Danville community stunned.

This is a developing story.
