He Was Showing Off His Gun Like an Idiot — You Never Show Off Your Gun. Naturally, He Found Out the Hard Way (Video)
This is exactly why responsible gun owners always say the same thing: never show off your gun.
An off-duty police officer was in an elevator with his wife when he decided it would be a good idea to pull out his firearm and mess around with it. He fumbled the gun, it went off, and he shot himself.
The whole thing was caught on camera. You can see the wife’s reaction and see the chaos that followed.
Video:
He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and later released to recover at home. Thankfully no one else was hurt.
But come on — this is basic gun safety 101. Guns are tools, not toys. You don’t pull one out in an elevator to show off or play with it, especially when you’re supposed to know better as a police officer.
The Second Amendment is a right, but it comes with serious responsibility. The left loves to push the idea that guns are inherently dangerous and that only the government should have them. Stories like this get twisted by the media to fuel their gun-control narrative, even though the problem here wasn’t the gun — it was the reckless behavior.
Responsible gun owners know the rules: treat every gun as loaded, keep your finger off the trigger until you’re ready to shoot, and never point it at anything you’re not willing to destroy. Showing off is how idiots turn a safe, legal firearm into a self-inflicted wound.
President Trump has always defended the Second Amendment while emphasizing that law-abiding citizens should be trained and responsible. He knows the difference between a good guy with a gun and someone acting like a fool with one.
This video is a perfect reminder: don’t be that guy. Keep your gun secured, keep it holstered unless you need it, and never treat it like a prop.
Guns don’t shoot people by themselves. People who act stupid with guns do.

Mark Van der Veen offers some of the most analytical and insightful writings on politics. He regularly opines on the motives and political calculations of politicians and candidates, and whether or not their strategy will work. Van der Veen offers a contrast to many on this list by sticking mainly to a fact-based style of writing that is generally combative with opposing ideologies.

Yes, police shouldn’t have guns, they’re too irresponsible.
Or was he gonna shoot her…
Someone that stupid could have been trying to shoot her–and missed.
