The attack by Thomas Jacob Sanford—a 40-year-old ex-Marine with a deep-seated grudge against Mormons—left four dead after he rammed his truck into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, opened fire on worshipers, and torched the place with gasoline. Improvised explosives were found too, making this a clear case of targeted anti-Christian hate, not some MAGA-fueled rampage. Sanford was killed in a shootout with cops, but not before his actions echoed the rising wave of church attacks across America.

Burton City Council candidate Kris Johns, who chatted with Sanford just days prior while campaigning, described him as polite and outgoing, but fixated on anti-Mormon rants—calling them “the antichrist” and spouting standard online conspiracy junk about their beliefs. No politics mentioned, just religious beef from his time in Utah. Yet here comes Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA), peddling a doctored photo of Sanford in Trump gear to smear MAGA supporters as violent. His X post reeks of desperation: trying to tie the shooting to conservatives while ignoring the left’s own incitement against Trump folks.
