We are living in a land where your punishment for murder is lesser than your punishment for leaving bacon at a mosque for the enjoyment of the congregation!!!
Murder- free walk! Free breakfast of bacon-15 yrs. In prison!!! Clinton style serial killing- fame and fortune!!!
A judge released 19-year-old Brittany Covington, who was one of four Chicago suspects accused of beating and torturing a disabled teenager in a Chicago apartment and broadcasting the attack on Facebook. During the video of the attack, the suspects are heard saying, “F*** white people,” and “f*** Trump.”
Jordan Hill, Tesfaye Cooper and sisters Tanishia and Brittany Covington were each charged with aggravated kidnapping, hate crime, aggravated unlawful restraint and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. The 28-minute live-streamed video showed the group punching and kicking the victim, cutting his scalp and hair with a knife, and forcing him to drink toilet water.
Even though Covington pleaded guilty to a hate crime in court on Friday, judge William Hook let her off without prison time.
Chicago Tribune reported that the suspect also “pleaded guilty to aggravated battery and intimidation charges. As part of a plea deal, prosecutors dropped additional charges, including kidnapping.”
Judge Hooks imposed 200 hours of community service and banned Covington from using social media and having contact with her co-defendants for four years. He also told Covington: “Do not mess this up.”
The judge did not assign jail time because, he said, “I’m not sure if I did that you’d be coming out any better.”
Not sure she’d be “coming out any better.” What she and her friends did was cruel and mean. They could have killed this innocent disabled person.
After all, “Coming out better” is not the point. Respect for the law and respect for your fellow human beings is. This woman should feel the weight of the responsibility of both.
If we no longer expect or demand decency from our citizens we will most certainly get our pathetic expectation granted.
Still, Judge Hooks insisted that his sentence would give Covington the chance to put her life on a productive path.
Cases for the other three defendants are pending.
So what does this mean? Anyone’s kids can be tortured with impunity? No lessons learned! Back on the streets…This makes clear our justice system is a joke! Zero rehabilitation, only incarceration, and perpetuated hate!
